We inherited a mature, if overgrown, garden when we moved to Roscommon, and soon learned of the green-fingered reputation of the previous owner, Fintan, who died in 2012. We’ve spent a full year here and have seen a lovely rotation of the flowers he planted in past times emerge, starting with snowdrops in February and concluding now with hydrangea, montbretia and an array of roses to take us from autumn into winter. Thank you Fintan, we’ll do our best to look after the place for you.

This is our second garden. Our first, much smaller, garden also once had a dedicated custodian, Madge, whose fragrant roses perfumed the original Ballyer Backyard.
