Blight warnings were issued a few weeks ago and since then we’ve seen lots of Irish and UK gardeners report that their outside tomatoes and potatoes have been stricken. We thought we may have escaped it, but sadly some of our potatoes, planted in a damp and slightly overgrown part of the garden have succumbed. We’ve only ever planted early potatoes before so this is our first brush with the dread blight. We planted sarpo mira variety because of their blight resistant quality, but they were no competition for the muggy moistness of the last few weeks. Four outside tomato plants in another part of the garden had succumbed previously.
